Snapchat Memories on the wrong date
You exported your Snapchat Memories, and nothing is in the right place in your gallery: a night out lands on the day before, a trip slips by a day, or everything is dated today. It is not something you did: it is how the export is built.

What happens, depending on how you saved them
You unzipped the files on a computer
The files keep the time they were taken, but in universal time (UTC), not the local time where you were. In New York, a photo taken at 9:30 pm in summer shows up at 1:30 am the next day. In a real export of 1,720 memories, about one in ten landed on the wrong day this way: mostly nights out and faraway trips.
You saved them one by one on an iPhone
Opening the .zip in the Files app and tapping "Save Image" dates the photo the day you save it: Snapchat photos carry no date of their own. Years of memories end up piled on today.
You used "Export Snap" in the app
That makes a copy now, so it gets today's date too.
Where is the real date?
In a separate file of the export: json/memories_history.json, inside the "mydata" .zip. It gives each memory's date, exact time and often its place. But no gallery (Photos, Google Photos, the Android gallery, Windows) reads that file: each photo has to be matched with its line, which the file names alone do not allow.
The fixes
- By hand
- Change each photo's date in Photos (Image › Adjust Date and Time), reading it from the JSON file. Free, but unrealistic beyond a few dozen memories.
- A script
- Free scripts exist if you are comfortable with a terminal. Check that they handle the local time of the place, not just UTC.
- Rembobino
- Drop the .zip files as they are. Each memory gets back its date and the local time of the place where it was taken, worked out from its coordinates, then it is added to Photos (or to a folder sorted by date). On iPhone, Mac or Windows; on iPhone and Mac, with no duplicates of what Snapchat already put in Photos. The free trial restores 250 memories, then €5.99 once.
Every option, side by side: the comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Why are only some memories on the wrong day?
The shift is a few hours (four to seven in the US, more on a faraway trip). Only memories taken late at night or early in the morning change day; the others look right, give or take the hour.
Can memories already in Photos be fixed?
Rembobino works from the export. Memories Snapchat had already saved to your camera roll are recognized: on iPhone, you can keep them as they are or replace them with the version that has the place, with no duplicates.
What about videos?
They often have the right day but not always the right time, and long videos arrive cut up: see split videos.
