Export your Snapchat memories

All your memories, for free, from Snapchat's official website. Five minutes to request them, then a few hours of waiting.

Why do it now

Free Memories storage is capped at 5 GB. From January 2027, memories older than a year that aren't part of your oldest 5 GB will be archived: you'll still see the thumbnails, but you'll need a subscription to open, share or download them.

Exporting is free and gives you a complete copy of your own. What's changing, in detail

The six steps

  1. Open the “My Data” page. On accounts.snapchat.com, log in with your usual account. In the app, it's under Settings › My Data.
  2. Turn on “Export your Memories”. It's in the “Select data to include” list. This one matters: without it, the archive contains no photos or videos. If you're offered a format, pick JSON.
  3. Pick the full date range. Choose the widest range so no memory gets left out.
  4. Check your email address, then click “Submit”. Snapchat starts preparing your archive. A request in progress can't be cancelled.
  5. Wait for Snapchat's email. Often a few hours. Snapchat says large archives can take up to 7 days.
  6. Download every file. On the “My Data” page, click “See exports”, then “Download”. Large archives come as several .zip files: get them all.

Nobody but Snapchat needs your password. You make the request yourself, on the official website. Rembobino never connects to your account.

What's in the archive

Depending on how many memories you have, you get one or more files:

Your data, including the list of your memories with their date and location (json/memories_history.json).
memories.zip
The photos and videos themselves.
memories-2.zip…
The rest, for large archives.

Why everything has the wrong date in Photos

Imported as they are, these files land on the day you downloaded them: each memory's date and location sit in the separate list, not in the photo. Stickers, captions and drawings also arrive as separate files.

Common questions

Do I need to unzip the files?

Not for Rembobino: drop the .zip files in as they are, in any order.

Can I make the request from my iPhone?

Yes, from the Snapchat app (Settings › My Data). Then download the files on your Mac, where Rembobino processes them.

What should I do with the .zip files once my memories are restored?

Keep them, for example on an external drive: they're your original copy, exactly as Snapchat delivered it.

I'm under 5 GB. Is it worth it?

Nothing of yours will be archived, but a copy outside Snapchat is still a good idea: if you ever lose access to your account, your memories go with it.
